IRS gets a CEO

The IRS has a new position, and another Trump administration official has a second job.

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent named Frank Bisignano as the new CEO of the IRS. This is an entirely new position that will have Bisignano manage day-to-day operations. He’ll report to Bessent, who remains acting commissioner but has a lot else on his plate.

Bisignano is already commissioner of the Social Security Administration, so he’s doubling up on management positions. That’s now commonplace in the Trump administration, but it puts a lot in Bisignano’s lap with tax season coming up.
