Banking advances Turner for HUD over Dem objections

The Senate Banking Committee advanced Scott Turner to be the next secretary of the Department of Housing and Urban Affairs on a party-line vote this morning, despite an 11th-hour call from Democrats to delay the proceedings.

We scooped this morning that Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) and the rest of the panel’s Democrats urged Banking Chair Tim Scott (R-S.C.) to delay the hearing in the absence of an FBI background check. Scott disputed that it was a Banking Committee precedent to require a background check before advancing a nominee. Turner now heads to the floor.
