The Senate Agriculture Committee advanced its portion of crypto market structure legislation without bipartisan support Thursday morning. It’s a step forward for the crypto industry’s legislative agenda — but not a very big one.
The committee advanced the landmark crypto bill forward on a 12-11 vote, with all the panel’s Democrats voting against the measure. This legislation will need bipartisan support to clear the Senate floor, and Democrats bemoaned Chair John Boozman’s (R-Ark.) decision to move ahead on this markup before striking a deal.
The White House got its own drubbing, too. Sen. Cory Booker (D-N.J.), who is leading Ag Democrats’ efforts in these talks, said President Donald Trump’s crypto entanglements had made the process “infinitely harder.”
