The Senate is pulling out a tried-and-true playbook in an attempt to force major housing legislation through Congress: jamming the House.
It’s not yet clear whether the Senate’s gamble will work, given the challenging dynamics of Speaker Mike Johnson’s razor-thin majority. But Senate supporters of the 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act are very, very bullish they can force the House to act.
Senate Banking Committee Chair Tim Scott (R-S.C.) addressed reporters this morning to discuss the housing bill. We asked Scott directly whether the Senate was trying to jam the House.
“No,” Scott said. “I would ask you, if you take the vast majority of what someone says they want, and then you add in something that they themselves did not pass — which would be the central bank digital currency [ban] — does that sound like a jam to you?”
