Senate Republicans are looking to add significant expansions to health savings accounts back into the tax bill before it hits the floor, according to multiple sources with knowledge of the talks.
The Senate Finance Committee’s reconciliation package dropped around $40 billion of boosts for HSAs — the accounts Americans can use to save and pay for medical expenses tax-free — that were in the House-passed bill.
That’s upset some conservative groups and lawmakers who view HSAs as a central GOP health policy.
