News: Key senators seeking agreement on bipartisan legislation to regulate stablecoins reached a deal in principle this afternoon, people familiar with the negotiations said. Whether that holds with the introduction of new text is a different question.
A group of key lawmakers convened in the office of Senate Banking Committee Chair Tim Scott (R-S.C.) this morning, and they’re expected to meet again tonight. The list included Sens. Cynthia Lummis (R-Wyo.), Bill Hagerty (R-Tenn.), Kirsten Gillibrand (D-N.Y.), Mark Warner (D-Va.) and Ruben Gallego (D-Ariz.).
Three people involved with the process told us senators left today’s meeting with a deal in principle. One Democratic aide pushed back after we broke the news, stressing the need to see the text and remaining concerns about the process.
