House Republicans abruptly canceled a procedural vote on renewing FISA’s foreign surveillance authority as GOP leaders and the White House try to quell an uprising by hardline conservatives who are blocking the bill.
The House was slated to vote on a rule for the clean 18-month FISA extension this afternoon. But the GOP leadership canceled the vote to allow for more negotiations with their hardliners. Members of the House Freedom Caucus said that the leadership shouldn’t bring a rule to the floor unless they have a deal. Speaker Mike Johnson and his leadership team seem to have heeded that advice.
