House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries asserted Thursday Democrats are not part of the state and local tax deductions fight, calling GOP efforts on the issue “phony.”

At his weekly news conference, Jeffries said Democrats were against capping SALT when Republicans passed the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act in 2017 during President Donald Trump’s first term.
