Jeffries: McIver indictment is an ‘assault … on independence’ of Congress

House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries said the criminal indictment of Democratic Rep. LaMonica McIver (N.J.) over a May 9 incident at an ICE facility in New Jersey sets a dangerous precedent that threatens lawmakers in both parties from a vengeful president.

“If LaMonica McIver actually presented a threat to Homeland Security officials, they would not have permitted LaMonica, along with two other members of Congress, to tour the facility for at least an hour without incident at all,” Jeffries told Punchbowl News in an interview Wednesday morning.
