Speaker Mike Johnson and House Republican leaders appear unlikely to bring the chamber back into session next week, extending the 20-day recess despite the ongoing government shutdown.

During a party conference call this morning, Rep. Jay Obernolte (R-Calif.) expressed concern about the House continuing to be on a 48-hour standby instead of coming back into town.
