With a funding deadline less than 36 hours away, Speaker Mike Johnson and the House Republican leadership expressed confidence in their political position going into the shutdown and urged rank-and-file GOP lawmakers to stay unified.
Johnson said that lawmakers should expect to be back in Washington next week – meaning a government shutdown will almost certainly begin Wednesday at 12:01 a.m. and will likely last into next week.
