Stefanik nomination is in trouble as Signalgate furor rolls on

The White House is considering abandoning the nomination of Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-N.Y.) to be U.S. ambassador to the United Nations.

Stefanik was nearly certain to be confirmed. But the White House has grown concerned about the narrow GOP vote margins in the House. It’s kind of interesting that they’re only focused on this now instead of, you know, when they nominated her back in late January.

Stefanik, 40, relinquished her position as House Republican Conference chair, the No. 4 position in the GOP leadership. Stefanik retained her committee assignments, however. The Senate Foreign Relations Committee already cleared her nomination. Stefanik was set to resign from the House next week if confirmed.
