Shapiro, Jeffries, Newsom top list of likely new Democratic leader

Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro, House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries and California Gov. Gavin Newsom are most likely to emerge as the leader of the Democratic Party during the Trump administration, according to our latest Canvass survey.

The Democratic Party has struggled to find a formidable leader after its embarrassing losses in the 2024 elections, where then-President Joe Biden suddenly stepped down and his replacement, former Vice President Kamala Harris, lost the election.
