The top Senate appropriators who oversee FBI funding have agreed to hold off any FY2026 money for the bureau’s new headquarters until plans for the project are submitted to the House and Senate Appropriations panels.
Sens. Chris Van Hollen (D-Md.) and Jerry Moran (R-Kan.), who oversee the Commerce-Justice-Science appropriations panel, have reached a deal on this controversial issue. The FBI must submit a comprehensive architectural, engineering and security plan before any funds can be spent on its new HQ. The plans must then be approved by appropriators.
