Laphonza Butler sworn in to the Senate

Sen. Laphonza Butler (D-Calif.) was sworn in to the Senate Tuesday afternoon, filling the seat of the late Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.).

Butler is a longtime Democratic activist who most recently was the president of the pro-abortion rights group EMILY’s List. She was tapped by California Gov. Gavin Newsom to replace Feinstein, who passed away last week at age 90.
