Sen. Peter Welch (D-Vt.) said that renewing the enhanced Affordable Care Act tax credits should be part of the negotiations to avert a government shutdown.

Welch, who was speaking at Punchbowl News’ health summit Tuesday morning, said there will be so much pressure on lawmakers of both parties to avoid an increase in health care costs that they will need to act on the expiring subsidies soon.
