With just two days until funding runs out for the Department of Homeland Security, there are no signs of a breakthrough between Republicans and Democrats.
It now appears likely that Congress will blow past the DHS funding deadline on Friday night without a deal, barring a major breakthrough in talks with the White House.
Despite the long odds, Senate Majority Leader John Thune is trying to project movement in the DHS negotiations so he can court Senate Democrats’ votes. But Democrats and the White House remain far apart.
“There’s going to be the legislative text coming over from the White House today,” Thune told us this morning. “The White House is operating in good faith.”
