Senate Majority Leader John Thune reiterated “we want to” get a vote on the GOP’s voter ID and proof-of-citizenship proposal — the SAVE America Act — but not during the ongoing Department of Homeland Security funding shutdown.
“If we were going to go down that path, it’s very hard to pivot and get back to open up the government,” Thune said. “We need to make sure that DHS, TSA, Coast Guard, FEMA, all those agencies are funded.”
Democrats are adamantly opposed to the SAVE America Act.
