McALLEN, Texas — Senate Majority Leader John Thune said President Donald Trump was “fired up” during a phone conversation they had right before the Senate voted to rebuke the commander-in-chief over Venezuela.
In a Truth Social post shortly after Thursday’s war powers vote, Trump called out the five Senate Republicans who voted with Democrats to advance the effort, saying they “should never be elected to office again.”
In an interview here after an event at the U.S.-Mexico border, Thune said that while he understood Trump’s frustration, Republicans need to “play the long game.”
