Vought strikes another blow to appropriators

Thune’s new headache. Senate Majority Leader John Thune spent the last several weeks working to clear conservative objections to kicking off floor action on a five-bill FY2026 funding package.

The South Dakota Republican, along with pretty much every GOP appropriator, was eager to at least start the floor process before the holiday recess. The calendar will be jammed come January.

The funding deadline is Jan. 30, and Thune already floated the possibility of resorting to full-year stopgaps for three of the 12 funding bills.
