The White House is still working to discourage states from regulating AI despite the recent setback for the idea in the GOP reconciliation bill.
The administration’s Artificial Intelligence Action Plan released Wednesday says federal funds related to AI shouldn’t go to states with “burdensome” rules on the technology.
The wariness about state AI rules echoes the doomed language in the reconciliation law but softens it a bit by leaving the door open to “prudent laws that are not unduly restrictive to innovation.” But it’s not clear which types of rules might be deemed prudent.
