News. Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei will join Senate Banking Committee Republicans Tuesday for a closed-door roundtable on artificial intelligence policy. He’ll also hold a separate meeting with the panel’s ranking member, Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.).
The panel has jurisdiction over export controls, and Amodei has been advocating for stronger curbs on AI chips going to China.
More export control news. House Foreign Affairs Committee Chair Brian Mast (R-Fla.) and his Democratic counterpart, Rep. Gregory Meeks (N.Y.), are urging Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick to restrict China’s access to semiconductor manufacturing equipment.
In a Monday letter to Rubio and Lutnick, Mast and Meeks, along with six other lawmakers from both parties, ask for export controls of SME to cover all of China, and not just specific Chinese entities. It’s yet another sign that a significant bloc of lawmakers want the administration to choke Beijing’s access to American technology in the AI race between the two super powers.
