The tech industry is closely watching who receives the House Republican Steering Committee’s blessing tonight to be the next Homeland Security Committee chair.

Tech lobbyists are particularly interested in how the next chair will handle the renewal of a critical cybersecurity law that expires in September. At least one candidate has made his cyber policy chops central to his campaign: Rep. Andrew Garbarino (R-N.Y.). Garbarino is popular with the industry and is a favorite for the gavel, but he still must defeat three other challengers to get the chairmanship.
