The House Energy and Commerce Committee advanced a series of bipartisan tech bills in its first legislative markup this year, leaving the thorniest issues for a later time.
The panel voted unanimously to approve a slate of bills, including ones that would establish a new cybersecurity office and regulate retractable awnings. The bipartisan affair came as the panel is expected to be in the middle of upcoming partisan fights over making cuts to social safety net programs as part of the GOP reconciliation package. It has tricky tech issues to deal with too.
