GAIN AI looks like it’s falling out of the National Defense Authorization Act.

The contentious provision that would limit export of advanced artificial intelligence chips to nations like China is very close to being removed from the annual defense policy bill, according to multiple people familiar with the negotiations.

The all-but-finalized decision to strip the GAIN AI Act from the bill comes despite the proposal’s backers making several changes to appease the chips industry and the White House, according to these people. Negotiations are still ongoing.
