A key House Republican is introducing a bill Friday to regulate autonomous vehicles to kick off an effort to set up a national framework for self-driving cars and trucks.
The bill comes from Rep. Bob Latta (R-Ohio), who is leading the House Energy and Commerce Committee’s legislative push on AVs with the blessing of panel Chair Brett Guthrie (R-Ky.).
But Latta introduced his Self Drive Act without his longtime legislative partner on the effort, Rep. Debbie Dingell (D-Mich.). It’s another sign that Democrats’ concerns over AVs will be an obstacle to getting national rules in place this year.
