Getting any major piece of legislation completed this year will be very difficult. But AI doesn’t always fall along the usual partisan lines, and the White House is motivated.

Tech: Mega export control package clears HFAC

The House Foreign Affairs Committee on Wednesday approved a package of legislation that would limit the export of advanced technologies, including those powering the artificial intelligence revolution, to China.

Lawmakers advanced more than 20 largely bipartisan bills to give the Commerce Department greater resources and tools to curb Chinese access to American technology, including AI chips. They also moved a controversial bill to push U.S. allies to stop selling semiconductor manufacturing equipment to China.
