The Senate Banking Committee’s top Democrat urged her party not to celebrate the crypto market’s latest downturn, pointing to the harm being done to retail investors.

Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) has long been one of the crypto sector’s sharpest critics. But in a statement shared with Punchbowl News, Warren pushed back on some Democrats who have cheered the ongoing crypto crash and urged them to focus on creating strong guardrails for the industry. That includes a post from the official X account of the DNC last week.

“No one should celebrate when Americans lose their hard-earned money,” Warren said. “The crypto falloff underscores why we need to make sure there are ordinary, commonsense consumer protections in place for this industry.”
