Senate Republicans don’t seem all too concerned about the prospect of President Donald Trump naming or nominating a new head of the Federal Reserve with almost a year left in Chair Jay Powell’s term.
The Wall Street Journal reported earlier this week that the president could name his pick for Fed chair long before the job opens up. Trump and company have expressed frustration with Powell’s approach to interest rates. Democrats see the “shadow chair” maneuver as a sharp departure from norms and one more attempt to curtail the Fed’s independence.
