A key Senate GOP negotiator is expecting the White House to send Democrats another counteroffer soon on funding the Department of Homeland Security, as talks to end the brutal 33-day shutdown finally show some movement.
Sen. Katie Britt (R-Ala.) told us the White House will send the new proposal to Democrats and then “we’ll go from there.”
Britt’s comments came after a meeting she organized with a bipartisan group of senators and border czar Tom Homan this afternoon. Senate Majority Leader John Thune is also threatening to cancel the chamber’s two-week Easter and Passover recess, another attempt to ratchet up pressure for a deal.
