The Senate could begin voting as soon as today on the annual defense policy bill, a rare move to consider major legislation during a government shutdown.
Senate Armed Services Committee Chair Roger Wicker (R-Miss.) locked in an agreement on the Senate floor earlier Thursday that would allow for 17 standalone amendment votes.
Wicker has been pushing for swift Senate consideration of the National Defense Authorization Act. It has been the Senate’s pending legislative business for the last month while leadership on both sides worked to clear various objections.
