A handful of Republican senators said they remain open to voting to rein in President Donald Trump’s authority to use military force in Venezuela following an hour-long classified briefing Wednesday with top administration officials.
A half-dozen GOP votes are believed to be in play ahead of an expected vote Thursday on Sen. Tim Kaine’s (D-Va.) war powers resolution. At least five of them would need to vote in favor in order for it to pass. Sen. John Fetterman (D-Pa.) has suggested he’ll break from Democrats in opposing the measure.
None of the Republicans in question said their concerns were completely allayed by the briefing, with a few saying they still have significant questions.
