Pentagon policy chief Elbridge Colby said the United States’ approach to China will stay clear of confrontational rhetoric and instead be based on what he’s dubbing “peace through strength, and strong and clear but quiet.”
Colby rolled out the approach in the Indo-Pacific during his inaugural international trip, but this week will be the first time he’s publicly briefing lawmakers, who have made clear that countering Beijing is a top priority.
The commentary will be part of the sales pitch Colby will be making on Capitol Hill during two high-profile hearings — before the Senate on Tuesday and the House on Thursday — as he defends President Donald Trump’s National Defense Strategy and fields questions about the ongoing war with Iran.
