Senators are set to leave town Thursday after another week where they couldn’t make any headway on funding the Department of Homeland Security.
The DHS shutdown is already on Day 26 since Congress missed the funding deadline, leaving tens of thousands of federal employees without pay.
Senators didn’t appear any closer to an agreement Wednesday afternoon when Republicans once again rejected Democrats’ attempt to reopen all agencies except for ICE and CBP. Republicans countered with their own request for a two-week funding deal, which Democrats rejected.
