A bipartisan group of eight senators is urging President Donald Trump to formally move ahead with a $14 billion arms sale to Taiwan ahead of his trip to China this week.
The action, lawmakers argued, would signal unwavering U.S. support for the self-governing island as Trump prepares to meet with Chinese President Xi Jinping, nearing a decade after Trump’s first-term trip to Beijing.
“We strongly encourage your administration to formally notify the $14 billion in U.S. arms sales to Taiwan that Congress pre-approved in January 2025,” the senators wrote in the letter released Monday.
