Democrats fear President Donald Trump’s move to capture Nicolás Maduro could embolden Chinese President Xi Jinping to act against Taiwan and Russian President Vladimir Putin to depose Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
Republicans say those comparisons are off base.
“President Xi doesn’t believe in [the] rule of law. President Putin is a war criminal,” House Majority Leader Steve Scalise said. “What President Trump did is remove the dictator who was voted out by his own people, but refused to leave and was also under indictment for an act of terrorism.”
