President Donald Trump said Monday he’d called off planned strikes against Iran scheduled for the following day but had instructed the military “to be prepared to go forward with a full, large-scale assault of Iran, on a moment’s notice” if talks fail.
Unease and anxiety among rank-and-file lawmakers has been steadily building as Trump has certified the war with Iran as “terminated” but continues to menace the country. The president warned in a Truth Social post Sunday that Iran “better get moving, FAST, or there won’t be anything left of them.”
Some congressional Iran hawks have been calling for stronger U.S. action. Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) has openly advocated for a “forceful response” to help “reset the conflict in all the right ways.”
