President Donald Trump finally signed an executive order to give the government access to advanced artificial intelligence models before they’re publicly released. 

The EO enacted Tuesday would set up a voluntary framework for tech companies to share access to their newest models with federal agencies for 30 days before they’re released. Trump’s AI order, signed behind closed doors and without advance notice, comes after weeks of back-and-forth between the industry and the White House over the scope of the EO.
