House Democrats said on Thursday they’re confident a growing number of Republicans will support their war powers resolution seeking to restrict further U.S. military involvement in Venezuela.
Earlier Thursday, five Senate Republicans voted with all Democrats to advance a Senate war powers resolution. In the House, Democrats aren’t expecting Speaker Mike Johnson to bring that bill up for a vote. So Rep. Jim McGovern (D-Mass.) is leading a group of Democrats to introduce a privileged war powers resolution that will ripen on Jan. 22.
So far, the resolution has just one GOP cosponsor: Rep. Thomas Massie (Ky.), a constant thorn in the side of Republican leadership and the White House.
