The House and Senate defense panels will each get a classified briefing this week on the U.S. campaign against Iran. But a Pentagon budget expert will not be among the witnesses, despite the military’s push for a $200 billion package to fund war operations.
The House Armed Services Committee’s briefing, which hasn’t been previously reported, is scheduled for Wednesday morning, according to a notice we obtained. The Senate Armed Services Committee briefing will follow at 1 p.m.
The closed-door updates will come a week after news broke that the Pentagon is seeking $200 billion in supplemental funding to support the ongoing war effort. A senior Trump administration official confirmed the request, but it hasn’t yet made its way to Capitol Hill. It’s unclear how much money the Trump administration will ultimately seek from Congress.
