Questions over the true cost of the Iran war continue to swirl on Capitol Hill amid signs the conflict in the Middle East could again ramp up.
Moody’s chief economist Mark Zandi pegged the cost of the war at $100 billion on Monday and said bigger tax refunds this year from the GOP’s last reconciliation bill now “no longer cover the higher costs of gasoline, diesel, and jet fuel caused by the war.”
Pentagon officials testified on May 12 that the conflict had cost $29 billion, a figure they acknowledged is not comprehensive. Lawmakers have demanded more information about the conflict’s full costs as they try to cobble together a military-centric supplemental or reconciliation package.
