President Donald Trump announced Wednesday he is directing the Defense Department to use “any” money available to cover troops’ pay during the government shutdown.

In a new executive order, Trump appeared to open the door to paying service members for the duration of the funding lapse using money Congress previously appropriated – despite questions about whether that would be legal.
