The Congressional Budget Office sent a letter to outgoing House Financial Services Committee Chair Patrick McHenry (R-N.C.) this morning with fresh analysis on the costs of recapitalizing and releasing Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac from government conservatorship.
The letter is an update of a 2020 assessment from CBO about the costs of various approaches to release the government-sponsored enterprises back into the private market. We’re going to hear a lot more about this effort as the Trump administration gets under way.
