The Department of Transportation launched a probe targeting the credit card rewards programs of several large airline companies this afternoon.

The investigation, targeting American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, Southwest Airlines and United Airlines, is an escalation of Washington’s scrutiny of credit cards, which has been led in recent years by Sens. Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) and Roger Marshall (R-Kan.).
