Eyes on Wyden, GOP as Biden trade pick twists in the wind

Top progressives on the Senate Finance Committee have major reservations with the Biden administration’s latest nominee to serve at the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative, potentially imperiling the pick.

The big question now: Will Republicans bail him out?

President Joe Biden nominated Nelson Cunningham to serve as Deputy Trade Representative earlier this month. Almost immediately, progressives like Senate Finance Committee Chair Ron Wyden (D-Ore.) and Sherrod Brown (D-Ohio) indicated they had problems with the pick.
