First in the Vault. A large bipartisan group of House members urged Speaker Mike Johnson and House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries to “strip or substantially revise” provisions of a major Senate housing bill that would limit the institutional ownership of single-family homes.
The effort is being led by Reps. Mark Alford (R-Mo.), Tracey Mann (R-Kan.), Lou Correa (D-Calif.), Brittany Pettersen (D-Colo.), Celeste Maloy (R-Utah) and Josh Harder (D-Calif.) with more than 70 other co-signers. Those lawmakers are co-chairs of the Congressional Build America and Real Estate Caucuses.
“Instead of narrowly targeting corporate competition in the public market for existing single family homes, Section 901’s sweeping definition of ‘purchase’ captures the construction of new single family rental communities and other channels that add needed supply,” the lawmakers wrote.
