Federal Reserve chair nominee Kevin Warsh testified before the Senate Banking Committee Tuesday morning, a long-anticipated sitdown that gave financial markets and the public a deep dive into the man poised to lead the world’s most influential central bank.
Warsh weathered the hearing about as well as anyone could have expected. Senate Democrats have significant doubts about Warsh’s candidacy and credibility, which the former Fed governor tried to soothe throughout the morning.
Republicans were universally supportive of the nomination, though Sen. Thom Tillis (R-N.C.) continued to say he will oppose Warsh’s advancement so long as the Trump administration pursues its criminal investigation into current Chair Jay Powell.
