Congressional Republicans hailed the nomination of Kevin Warsh to be the next chair of the Federal Reserve Friday morning, though the former Fed governor will need to slog through some tough politics to reach the Senate floor.
GOP leaders from around Capitol Hill praised Warsh’s nomination by President Donald Trump this morning. That includes Sen. Thom Tillis (R-N.C.), who nonetheless maintained that he would continue to block any Fed nominee until Trump’s Justice Department drops its criminal inquiry into Chair Jay Powell.
“Kevin Warsh is a qualified nominee with a deep understanding of monetary policy,” Tillis posted on X this morning. But “protecting the independence of the Federal Reserve from political interference or legal intimidation is non-negotiable.”
