Waters pushes CFTC commissioner for senior Treasury gig

The top Democrat on the House Financial Services Committee sent a letter advocating for Commodity Futures Trading Commissioner Kristin Johnson to serve as the Treasury Department’s next assistant secretary of financial institutions.

The letter from Rep. Maxine Waters (D-Calif.), published Thursday afternoon and addressed to President Joe Biden, offered “strong support” for Johnson to be nominated to the position. The assistant secretary job was previously filled by Graham Steele, who left Treasury in 2023.
