The Bessent ascent is underway.
The Senate Finance Committee voted 16-11 on Tuesday morning to approve Scott Bessent to be President Donald Trump’s treasury secretary. All Republicans voted for the nomination, including Senate Majority Leader John Thune, who kept his Finance seat when he became leader this year. Two Democrats crossed the aisle to back Bessent.
